Scope and Contents

The Page Stegner photograph collection contains 89 black and white and color photographs of Stegner family homes and the surrounding landscapes in Eastend, Saskatchewan, Vermont and Idaho. The collection also contains copy prints of Saskatchewan from circa 1898-1920, featuring images of the North-West Mounted Police.

Biographical Note

Stuart Page Stegner was an author and historian of the American West. He was born on January 31, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Wallace Earle and Mary Page Stegner. He attended Stanford University, attained a B.A. in History in 1959 and a Ph.D. in American Literautre in 1964. Between 1965 and 1995, he was Director of the University of Santa Cruz's creative writing program, where he was a professor of English. He authored novels, numerous book reviews, and essays concerned with landscape and environment issues. Page and his wife, novelist Lynn Stegner, lived in California and in Vermont. Stegner passed away on December 14, 2017.

Abstract

Page Stegner was an author and historian of the American West. The Page Stegner photograph collection contains images of the Stegner houses in Eastend, Saskatchewan, Vermont, and Idaho, as well as images of the North-West Mounted Police in the early twentieth century.
