Scope and Contents
Of the 70 photographs contained in this collection many of them were used in Vernon's literature and include various scenes and situations which he related to sociology. Most of these photographs have captions attached to the back identifying them as figures in a text. Also included in this collection are a group of photographs named "Religious Projective Pictures," which were used for studies of the socialization of religion in America, and are accompanied by 4 sets and 3 single pages of photocopied text explaining these photographs.
Photographs included in this collection are: 1 black and white 9x14 print, 29 black and white 8x10 prints, 38 black and white 5x7 prints, and 2 small color prints.
Figure numbers in this inventory refer to numbering found on the back of photographs in this collection, the description that follows the figure number only describes what is found in the photograph. Photographs in this collection have been organized in general categories unrelated to sociology, however, many of the photographs also have a description found on the back of each relating them to sociology.

Biographical Sketch
Glenn Vernon was born in 1920. He graduated with a master's degree in sociology from Brigham Young University in 1950. He received his PhD in sociology from Washington State University in 1953. Glenn Vernon was a professor of sociology at the University of Utah for many years, and was head of the sociology department in the 1970s. His primary scholarly interests focused on the sociological aspects of death, religion, and symbolic interaction. His main emphasis was the sociology of religion.
