Scope and Contents

The Robert Pruitt report collection conists of parts I and II titled, “Report of the Assistant United States Attoney General into the Charges of Ralph S. Kelley Respecting the Administration of Oil Shale Lands.” Part I contains the text of the Assistant Attorney General's report. Part II contains a collection of Ralph Kelley newspaper reports.

Biographical Note

Ralph S. Kelley resigned his post as chief of the field division of the General Land Office, Department of the Interior, in 1930. In a letter to Secretary Wilbur he alleged that oil shale lands of a potential value of forty billion dollars are being parcelled out, often illegally, to private interests by the government.
