Biographical Note
Michael Russell had a background in ballet skiing with his first competitions being in the early 1970s where he placed at a young age. Russell toured for four years on the World Cup freestyle circuit, directed Freestyle Skiers of America, and was a two-time runner-up in World Cup Ballet Skiing. When he was twenty-two (1979), Russell retired from competitive ballet skiing to start the SnowDance Company where he could expand the art of ballet skiing as more of an art rather than a competition. Although Russell later resigned as the director of the Company, he continued to be involved in the performing arts with the Ballet Montana Company as the Director of Development.
