Scope and Contents

The Merrill Cook papers consist of materials related to his service as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives during the years 1997–2001. Materials include voting records various speeches, finances, committees, campaigns, administrative information, promotional materials, as well as information regarding the legislative sessions as a whole.

Biographical note

Born May 6, 1946 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, Merrill Cook was a businessman and Republican Party politician. Cook was elected to Congress in 1996 and served in the U.S. House of Representatives from Utah's 2nd Congressional District during the 105th and 106th congressional sessions. Cook held seats on the U.S. House Banking Committee, Financial Institutions Subcommittee, and Capital Markets Subcommittee.

Abstract

The Merrill Cook papers (1987-2002) consist of materials pertaining to Cook's campaign and election, as well as materials related to his time served in the United States House of Representatives. Included within the collection are reports and briefs, projects and appropriations, legal and adminstrative materials.

This collection is arranged according to relevance and, within each box, arranged chronologically and alphabetically.

Donated by David M. Cook in 2016.

Separated Materials

Photographs and audio-visual materials were transferred to the Multimedia Division of Special Collections.
