The E. H. Snyder family mining papers (1885-2005) details the development of mining within the Intermountain West and the history of the involvement of the Snyder family in mining.

This collection mainly focuses on the professional activities of E. H. Snyder, along with E. H. Snyder, Jr. The collection contains geologic information regarding properties throughout the west (particularly the Pioche, Mercur and Stockton area), along with financial information.

Biographical Note

Edward Harrison Snyder was born in Frisco, Utah on February 12, 1889 to Willard Fiske and Dora Annette (Walker) Snyder. Willard F. Snyder was a famous mine promoter and was active in areas such as Park City, Tooele, Bingham, Dugway, Eureka, Marysville, Kimberly, Frisco, Elko and Pioche. He formed the company, W. F. Snyder & Sons. E. H. Snyder gained an interest in mining and received a degree in mining engineering from the Michigan College of Mining and Technology, carrying on the family mining traditions.

The Snyder family were pioneers in many areas, particularly metallurgy. They were involved with the development of lead/zinc flotation, uranium metallurgy, perlite mining, gold extraction, manganese, and metals recycling.

Later in life, E. H. Snyder became president of Combined Metals Reduction Company in Salt Lake City, Utah. His company played a major role in revitalizing the mining town of Hailey, Idaho, Stockton, Utah, Mercur, Utah and Pioche, Nevada. In 1991 Snyder was inducted into the National Mining Hall of Fame. He passed away December 6, 1967 at age 78.
