Historical Note

The U.S.S. Utah, a battleship first launched in 1909, was the first U.S. Navy ship to be names for the state of Utah. It was converted to a target ship in 1931 in accordance with the London Naval Treaty. In 1938, the year the bulletin of this collection was issued, the U.S.S. Utah was serving as a training vessel in the Pacific. It was sunk in the attack on Pearl Harbor.
