Scope and Contents

The Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic records consist of documents related to the internal court case pertaining to Roberta McDonald and her opposition to allowing membership to women involved with Captain Lot Smith's Company of the Cavalry, due to their membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. McDonald was found guilty of insubordination and was dishonorably discharged from her position as President of Rice Circle, No. 2, Department of Utah Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic.
