Biographical Note

Kim David Richards was born January 8, 1944 to Alton Franklin and Phyllis Krogue Richards in Ogden, Utah. He served an LDS mission to the Southern States mission headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia from January 1964 to December 1965. From 1966 to 1968 Richards finished a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Weber State College and began his graduate education at Utah State University.

He was drafted into the United States Army in early 1969 and underwent basic and advanced infantry training at Fort Ord, California. He was sent to South Vietnam for one year from June 1969 to June 1970 where he worked as a clerk typist for the division headquarters of the 101st Airborne Division. When he was discharged from the army in late 1970, he resumed his graduate studies at Utah State University where he completed his M.S. degree in chemistry.

Early in his career he taught chemistry for 11 years as an instructor at South Dakota State University and Southwest Missouri State University. During this time he also taught briefly as a visiting instructor at Weber State College and Utah State University. He later worked as a chemist for DataChem, Inc., Gull Laboratories, USANA, Inc. and Thatcher Company where he retired partially in 2009 and fully in 2013.
