Abstract
The William Engel Millner oral history transcript (2006) is of a series of interviews with Millner (b. 1920) conducted by Marsha Lundgren at the Utah Veteran's Association Nursing Home in Salt Lake City. The interviews were conducted between January and April 2006.

Biographical Sketch
William Engel Millner was born on 13 May 1920 in Columbus, Nebraska, to Maisy Engel and William Donald Millner. He was brought up by his mother and grandmother, Magdelina Erb Engel. In 1938 he enlisted in the army and was assigned to "C" Company of the 9th Infantry, which was stationed in San Antonio, Texas. He was later sent to Fort Armstrong, in Hawaii, where he was stationed when Pearl Harbor was bombed. He was assigned to mortuary duty as a result of the attack; later he served as a company clerk and a supply sergeant before being accepted for Officer Candidate School in the Army Air Corps. He married Mildred Hussong, a WAC, and the couple lived in Monroe, Louisiana, where Millner was assigned to a navigation training squadron. He later served in India, England, and various military posts in the United States before retiring from the military as a Lieutenant Colonel with twenty-seven years of service.
