Scope and Contents
The John B. and Margaret Gibson Smith papers (1856-1935) include a short history about the life of Margaret Gibson Smith (1825-1869) written by Jeannette Droubay in 1935, and also some news clippings that deal with the dedication of a monument to honor Margaret Smith and other pioneer women. Also contained in this collection are five patriarchal blessings. Three (two are the same blessing though) given to John B. Smith and two given to Margaret G. Smith.

Biographical Sketch
Margaret Gibson Smith (1825-1869) was born on 13 March, 1825 in Paisly, Scotland. Her parents were John Gibson and Mary Davis. She was baptized into the LDS church in 1846 and later on, while crossing the plains of the midwestern United States during her immigration to Utah, she met John B. Smith, and they were married in April 1851 at Council Bluffs, Iowa. Margaret had ten children: Adam, Mary, John, Margaret, William, Martha, George, Ellen, James, and Marion. In Utah, John and Margaret settled in Pine Canyon, known today as Lincoln. Margaret died in April 1869 and was buried in Tooele, Utah, and John died on 29 October 1900.
