The John E. Carr essay (undated) pertains to an assignment Carr was given by David B. Haight for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church). Elder Haight asked Carr to go to Scotland in 1970 to reclaim a stone, with the inscription "What E'er Thou Art, Act Well Thy Part," which was owned by the church and located at the mission headquarters in Edinburgh, Scotland. The stone was originally in the front of a home in Sterling, Scotland. Carr describes his difficult position in maintaining confidentiality, being obedient, and in retrieving the stone from Scotland and bringing it to Salt Lake City, Utah.
