Scope and Contents

The Robert Gordon Larsen papers (1930-1972) contain correspondence, journal articles, notebooks, research proposals, and a scrapbook relating to the career of this Utah chemist. The first box of the collection contains personal correspondence, scrapbooks, and notebooks. In the second box are various documents form conferences that Larsen attended from 1955 to 1969. The third box contains research and research proposals. In the fourth box are articles written by Larsen between 1935 and 1970.

Biographical Note

Robert Larsen was born on 5 May 1909 in Ephraim, Utah. After graduating from the University of Utah with a B.A. in Chemistry, he went on to receive a Ph.D. from Harvard University. From 1935 to 1937, Larsen was a research associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1937 he went to work for the Shell Oil Company, remaining there until 1970. He then became the Director of University of Utah Engineering Experiment Station and later a Professor at the University. Over his carerr, he wrote over 30 journal articles and contributed to several books in the field of chemistry. He was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), serving as a Bishop twice. Robert died from cancer in 1972.

The Robert Gordon Larsen papers (1930-1972) contain correspondence, journal articles, notebooks, research proposals, and a scrapbook relating to the career of this Utah chemist. Larsen was an engineer and chemist principally with the Shell Development Company, a division of Shell Oil Company.
