Organizational History

The Utah College Library Council (UCLC) was established in 1971 as a result of financial pressures on Utah acedemic libraries. The goal of the organization was to coordinate purchases of books between colleges and thus maximize the available funds. A reciprocal agreement was also established whereby any UCLC library could more easily conduct an interlibrary loan with another UCLC library. By 1987, twelve state and private academic libraries were part of the UCLC: Brigham Young University, College of Eastern Utah, Dixie College, Snow College, Southern Utah State College, University of Utah, Utah State University, Utah Technical College Provo/Orem, Utah Technical College Salt Lake, Utah State Library, Weber State College, and Westminster College. In 1994, some academic libraries in Nevada joined the agreement and the UCLC became the Utah Academic Library Consortium (UALC).
