Biographical Note

Douglas R. Stringfellow (1922-1966) was born in Draper, Utah, on 24 September 1922. He attended Weber College before entering the Army Air Force in 1942. He was discharged in 1945, served an LDS mission in Northern California from 1947 to 1948, and was elected to Congress in 1953. He was running for reelection in 1954 when it was revealed that much of what he had claimed about his past, including his military exploits, was a fiction. Stringfellow withdrew from the election, made a public confession, and returned to Utah where he spent the remainder of his working life in radio. He died in Long Beach, California, on 19 October 1966.
