Identifier: MS 0651
Scope and Contents
The Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City records (1967-1998) provide a limited administrative overview of how the society developed and reached its current prominent level. Included are membership records, correspondence, minutes, financial information, contracts, programs, fund raising materials, news clippings, and other papers. Unfortunately, there are substantial gaps in correspondence and printed records about the origins of the Chamber Music Society. The records from the 1980s are the most complete.

Organizational History
The Chamber Music Society of Salt Lake City was organized in 1967. Its founders were interested in providing Utah with world class chamber music. The Chamber Music Society immediately brought famous quartets to the Salt Lake area, including in its first season the Juillard, Beaux Arts and Lenox Quartets. Community support declined during the 1980s, but the music society adapted to new demands and continues to uphold the tradition of bringing high-quality music to Salt Lake.
