Scope and Contents
This collection contains a transcript of the reminiscences and diary of Mary Elizabeth Rollins Lightner which records her experiences with the Church in Kirtland, Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, and Utah, and her association with Joseph Smith. A photocopy of a letter written by Emmeline B. Wells in 1889 is also included in the collection.
The preface of this bound transcript states, "The following typescript was made from a typed copy used as a project in Church History. Acknowledgement is made to Professor Ivan J. Barrett for loaning the copy to Brigham Young University Library for transcription."

Biographical Sketch
Mary Elizabeth Rollins Lightner was born on 9 April 1818 in Lima, New York. Her family moved to New York where they were converted to the LDS Church. She married Adam Lightner on 11 August 1835. In 1863, they moved to Utah and settled in Minersville. Adam Lightner died in 1885 and Mary Lightner died on 17 December 1913.
