Biographical Sketch

Elmore Winfield LeRoy Jr., the son of Elmore W. and Gertrude Almira Smith LeRoy, was born in Chicago, Illinois, on 7 August 1898. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1917 and served in France with the American Expeditionary Forces during World War I. After being discharged, Leroy returned to Chicago where he eventually took up a career in commercial art. In 1939, he left Chicago for New York and then four years later, moved to Philadelphia to be a draftsman for the Naval Aircraft Facility at the Navy Yard. LeRoy was converted to the LDS Faith in 1940 and moved to Utah in 1947. He continued work as a commercial artist, but was also interested in genealogy and model trains. Elmore Winfield LeRoy died in 1966 in Salt Lake City.
