Scope and Contents

The Ronald Coleman papers (1866-1983) contain photocopies of news clippings, letters, photographs and personal documents related to African American families of Grand Junction, Colorado. The articles in the news clippings include a brief history of the Handy Chapel of Grand Junction as well as information on Rev. Booker T. Taylor, who was a minister at the Handy Chapel; W.W. Taylor and his wife; Marcus Hines, who was a returned World War II veteran, and his family; and "The Legend of Charlie Glass." In addition, there is a copy of a flyer pertaining to the meeting of the Western Federation of Colored Women (1904) in Salt Lake City, Utah. Also included is an excerpt from The Ute Massacre! Brave Miss Meekers Captivity written by Josephine Meeker about the Ute Massacre or Meeker Massacre near what is now Greeley, Colorado.
