Scope and Contents

The Albion W. and Agnes Sharp Caine papers (1895-1969) consist of correspondence, guest books, and newspaper articles pertaining to the Caine family. It concentrates mainly on Albion (Todd) W. Caine Jr. (1878-1964), his wife, Marie Hagman Caine (1878-1953), and their immediate family. The collection includes correspondence from many prominent LDS Church members including former presidents Joseph Fielding Smith, David O. McKay, and Spencer W. Kimball.

Twenty-four hour advanced notice encouraged. Materials must be used on-site. Access to parts of this collection may be restricted under provisions of state or federal law.

Some of the original correspondence in folder 1 has been removed and placed in Reserve. Access must be given by the Manuscripts Curator and by appointment. An archivist must remain with the items if being used. Access copies are provided.

Biographical Sketch

Albion W. Caine Jr. was a well-know figure in Salt Lake City, gaining national recognition in bicycle racing in 1895. He later became a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he became friends with many prominent church members.

Immediate Source of Acquisition

Gift of Chana Cummings in 2002.

Chana Cummings allowed permission to Multimedia Archives to photocopy scrapbook. The photocopy was transferred from Multimedia Archives to the Manuscripts Division in 2003.
