Scope and Contents

The Emil Morris Whitesides papers consist of personal correspondence during his participation in World War I (1917-1919), along with an autobiography titled, Things I Remember Most and Things I have Been Told. The autobiography was compiled in 2003 by Whitesides descendants and tells about his experience in the military, his missionary work, family life, and various activities.

Biographical Note

Emil Morris Whitesides was born November 12, 1894 in Layton, Utah to Edward M. and Mary Harvey Whitesides. He was educated in Davis County schools and was a graduate of the University of Utah. He served as an educator for 40 year finishing his career as principal of Davis High School. He was a veteran of World War I, serving an LDS mission to the Eastern States. He was active in civic affairs, was elected mayor of Kaysville for two terms, was elected treasurer of Davis County for two terms, retiring at age 77. He was a member of the Kaysville Rotary Club, and the American Legion.
