Organizational History
After the completion of the transcontinental railroad in 1869, Utah's mining industry enjoyed a period of tremendous growth. The increasingly efficient transportation system stimulated the production of copper, gold, silver, and lead in the Oquirrh Mountains and in Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons. Later, areas further south, such as Tintic and Mercur, were developed.
