Biographical Sketch

John D. Spencer was born in Provo, Utah, on 27 June 1858 to Daniel and Emily Thompson Spencer. Spencer lived his entire life in Salt Lake City, receiving all of his education there. In 1897, he became associated with the New York Life Insurance Company and maintained that affiliation until his death in 1947. Spencer was a patron of the arts and was a member of various artistic clubs and companies, including director of the Fine Arts and Letters Society of Utah. He married Clarissa Hamilton Young in 1882.

John D. Spencer (1858-1947) was an insurance executive and patron of the arts.
