The Nathan Cook Meeker papers consist of transcribed correspondence and telegrams, copied onto a microfilm reel, from Meeker and his predecessors, including Charles Adams, at the White River Indian Agency in Colorado. Much of the material surrounds the events of the Meeker massacre.

Biographical Note

Nathan Cook Meeker was a Colorado pioneer and instrumental in founding the Union Colony of Colorado, 1870 (later Greeley). He was appointed agent to the Utes at White River Indian Agency in 1878. Meeker and other reservation staff were murdered by Indians in 1879.
