Scope and Contents

The Moses Thatcher diaries consist of 4 volumes of photocopied originals and 1 original diary written by Thatcher of his LDS Church mission to Mexico and the British Isles. He records names of traveling companions, routes taken, return trips to Utah, and describes different Native American tribes and his counsel with them. Thatcher traveled through Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana visiting Yellowstone Park, the Crow Agency, and Washakie Agency.

Twenty-four hour advanced notice encouraged. Materials must be used on-site. Access to parts of this collection may be restricted under provisions of state or federal law.

Box 1, folder1 contains a photocopied version for access purposes. The original item has been removed and placed in Reserve. Access must be given by the Manuscripts Curator and by appointment. An archivist must remain with the item if being used.

Biographical Sketch

Moses Thatcher (1842-1909) was an apostle in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was born in Sangamon County, Illinois, to Hezekiah and Alena Kitchen Thatcher. He died in Logan, Utah.
