Biographical Sketch
Samuel Smith, son of John and Sarah Warwick Smith, was born 22 April 1833 in Essex. At age three, his mother died and he was reared by his paternal grandparents until, at age fifteen, he was apprenticed to a shoemaker in Danbury. A convert to the LDS Church, he emigrated to Utah in 1862, then was sent to Franklin, Idaho, to build up a settlement. He married Rosetta Livermore, an English girl who had preceded her family to Zion and had known him in branch meetings before they departed their native England. They resided in Franklin during the Battlecreek War, then moved to Logan. Samuel established himself as a cobbler and Rosetta as a milliner and dressmaker.
