From the Collection:
Helen was born on December 27, 1890 in Salt Lake City. She was educated in Salt Lake schools and received a basic degree in kindergarten education from the University of Utah. She taught school for only two years before getting married in 1915 to W. Seymour Wells. Together they had three children; Josephine Barbara, (who died as a baby), Rulon Seymour, who later became a professor of philosophy at Yale University, and Seldon, who pursued many interests but mainly traveled and lived outside of the United States.
Helen Clawson Wells, a descendent of Brigham Young, was a civic leader and a member of the Salt Lake Shade Tree Commission. The photographs in this collection are partly of 19th century Utah including Salt scenes and portraits of members of the immediate Clawson family. Part of the collection is of a mountain climbing excursion in an unidentified mountain range. Most of the images are the originals and are in fair condition. All of the photographs are black and white.
