Scope and Contents
Herbert Clark (b. 1923) enlisted in the Marine Corps in the Spring of 1942. He went to San Diego for his basic training and was assigned to H Company, 2nd Battalion of the 9th Regiment. H Company was trained in heavy weapons--machine guns and mortars. He was shipped to the Pacific Theater aboard the , stopping in Hawaii and New Caledonia prior to arriving in Auckland, New Zealand, for several months of training for beachheads. Clark's division went to Guadalcanal as a replacement division and remained there until the island was secure. He also participated in the invasions of Bougainville and Guam. He was discharged from the service in October 1945.
