File — Box: 80, Folder: 16
Scope and Contents
- John Worsencroft was born in Salt Lake City and grew up in neighboring Murray. From a military family, he had a pro-military father and a mother skeptical of military culture. He joined the Marine Reserve in 2000 and was trained as an infantryman. Following the September 11, 2001 World Trade Center attack he was deployed to Camp Pendleton, California. During Operation Iraqi Freedom he served in Iraq with the 1st Marine Division, and left with the rank of sergeant in 2006. The series of three interviews discusses Mr. Worsencroft’s youth, enlistment and service, his wartime deployment, and spends some time on both daily life and bigger-picture concerns. Mr. Worsencroft elaborates on reserve and active duty tensions and racial, religious, and gender issues in the military overall. The interviews also cover his work conducting oral histories with other veterans.
