Scope and Contents
- Beverly Dalley was born in Pleasant Grove, Utah, where she grew up. Dalley attended the University of Utah from 1942 until 1947 when she earned a biology degree. She continued to work at the university for several years after graduating. Dalley talks about her mentors at the university and describes her time working in the Laboratory of Human Genetics on a project focused on heredity and disease. Dalley was also involved in the Women’s Movement in Salt Lake City. Throughout her life she has championed women’s rights, particularly in academia. In 2004, Dalley established the Junius John Hayes Scholarship for Women in Mathematics, which is named after her father. The scholarship aims mostly to help widowed or divorced women who are working to support their families.
