Scope and Contents
- Dean Perkins fell in love with skiing in Sun Valley, Idaho. He also lived in Ogden near a few of the early skiers Utah skiers and started skiing with them, both at a golf course and at Snow Basin. At Snow Basin, Perkins started working the first rope tow and eventually worked the first lift, the Wildcat. He skied for the US Ski Team but was drafted into the Army right after high school. In Europe, Perkins was a clerk but eventually started racing in ski competitions for the services. He skied in every race with the US Ski Team except the Oslo Olympics. After injuring himself on a practice run, Perkins continued his recreational assignments with the Army as a tennis player. When he returned to Utah, he continued to ski at Snow Basin. Perkins also started his own ski shop, Perkins Limited, which he later expanded to sell men’s and women’s clothing.
