No. 859 Gary Belovsky, 2015
File — Box: 77, Folder: 8
Scope and Contents
- Dr. Gary Belovsky received his PhD from Harvard in Organismic Biology, and did postdoctoral research at the University of Washington, where he started a research program in Montana that he continued for thirty-eight years. He later accepted an appointment at Utah State University, before being recruited to the University of Notre Dame Environmental Research Center. While in Utah in the mid-1990s, Belovsky was asked by the state of Utah to help develop a system to manage the brine shrimp harvest on the Great Salt Lake. He describes that sometimes contentious process, leading the eventual development of an algorithm, informally called the Belovsky model, which regulates the brine shrimp harvest in a unique and interesting way.
