Scope and Contents
- Army veteran and University of Utah International Affairs and Global Enterprise master’s student Kirk Galster discusses his time in Iraq and Afghanistan, his growing interest in conflict resolution and international development which led him to his current degree program, and his faith. An Iowa native, Galster enlisted in the Army out of high school and served in Iraq with B Co., 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division as an infantry soldier. Upon his return he left active duty and went to college at Iowa State University. He joined the National Guard and became a satellite photo analyst. He was deployed to Afghanistan with the Iowa National Guard’s 2nd Brigade, 34th Infantry Division, and served at Bagram Airbase. The interview focuses predominantly on Galster’s education including his semester abroad in Jordan, the path that led him to his current studies, and his religious faith.
