No. 847 Steve Bojack, 2014
File — Box: 76, Folder: 16
Scope and Contents
- Major Steve Bojack, USAF (Retired), was born in Harvey, Illinois and grew up in Chicago. He went through ROTC at Colorado State University in the early- to mid-1980s and remembers that it was unpopular on campus to be in the military. Stationed in Germany when the Berlin Wall came down, Bojack deployed shortly after to the Persian Gulf and served in mission planning. He stayed on active duty until 1996 due to an economic downturn in the early 1990s, and still struggled to find employment for nearly a year after his separation from active duty. Bojack spent five years in the Air National Guard from 1996-2001, separating just before 9/11. He spends some time discussing societal perceptions of the military and notes the almost complete lack of media awareness that troops were deployed overseas during the intervening decade between the First Gulf War and 9/11. He finishes the interview with a discussion of returning veterans adapting to civilian life.
