Scope and Contents
- Robert Righter grew up in the Bay Area and went to college at Willamette University, where he studied history. Dr. Righter discusses his early influences and describes how he decided to become a historian. Before pursuing a career in history, he worked several jobs at Yosemite National Pak. Dr. Righter also describes his interest in environmental activism and environmental history, as well as his interest in Western history. He talks about his mentors and the ways in which they inspired or challenged him. Dr. Righter then describes his experiences as a member of the Western History Association, beginning with his first meeting in 1967. He recounts a few memorable moments and explains his perspective about how things have changed in the organization over the years he has been attending the meeting.
