Scope and Contents

  1. Regents’ Professor of History at Arizona State University Peter Iverson talks about his youth, his academic career as a historian of Native America, and his presidency of and involvement with the Western History Association. Dr. Iverson took his PhD at the University of Wisconsin, and taught at Navajo Community College and the University of Wyoming before finally settling at Arizona State University. He discusses his relationship with other scholars and students at some length, particularly at the University of Wyoming. Dr. Iverson also discusses his views on and history with the WHA, emphasizing his view on the importance of including a wider number of people and peoples in both the WHA and Western history as a whole, and avoiding the distractions of symbolic politics.
