No. 700 Sarah Hendrickson, 2012
File — Box: 70, Folder: 27
Scope and Contents
- US Ski Team jumper Sarah Hendrickson (b. 1994) grew up in Park City, Utah. She was inspired by the 2002 Winter Olympics, and started jumping at Canyons Resort near Park City because Park City was full for the Olympics. She describes her routine, her life growing up and finally switching from public school to the Winter Sports School, and competition. She won a World Junior Championships bronze medal in 2010, and won a World Cup as well. Ms. Hendrickson describes the supportive atmosphere that helped her succeed, and credits her brother, a Nordic combined skier, for his support as well as women’s ski jumping pioneer Lindsey Van for inspiration. She also discusses the struggle to get women’s ski jumping recognized as an Olympic sport, but was too young to be closely involved in it. At the time of the interview Ms. Hendrickson had plans for college, and was interested in medicine, but she loves ski jumping. Her interview also discusses the training regimen, the equipment she uses, and her mindset when jumping.
