Scope and Contents

From the Collection: The Kathryn Hain papers (1990-2017) consist of personal and professional material related to Kathryn Hain (b. 1957), who earned a Ph.D. from the University of Utah in the Department of Humanities, College of History. The collection is arranged in two series. The first series consists mostly of material related the Hain’s family time in Amman, Jordan and Jerusalem. Included are correspondence and ephemera to and from CSS directors, family, and friends. The second series consists of general material related to Hain’s Ph.D. candidacy and experience at the University of Utah. The bulk of the series consists of essays from Hain and other writers related to feminine enslavement and social mobility under Islam. Also included is Hain’s dissertation entitled “The Slave Trade of European Women to the Middle East and Asia,” 2016.
