Scope and Contents
Thomas C. Adams kept this diary while employed as an engineer's assistant on the Delta Reclamation Project, near Delta, Utah. Adams was a student at the University of Utah at the time and this was a summer job. Journal entries were made nearly every day recapitulating the author's activities. Many entries are accounts of his work routine, but some give good descriptions of the nature of the work on the project, especially in regard to drainage problems. Trips to some of the towns in the area, such as Delta, Deseret, Scipio, Oak City, and Fillmore, are described. In addition to his frequent travels in the Delta area, Adams and two companions drove to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and back for a vacation. Consequently, a portion of the diary describes their journey through Cedar City to St. George, and back up through Zion National Park. The party continued on to the Grand Canyon by way of Pipe Springs and Fredonia. On their return trip, they passed by Jacob Lake and Kanab. They went on to Bryce Canyon and Fish Lake before returning to Delta. The diary ends just before Adams returned to Salt Lake City to resume his studies. The diary includes an itemized account of his expenses for the summer and a list of the supplies taken on the Grand Canyon trip.
