Tonga Government Gazette, 1992

 File — Box: 1, Folder: 4

Scope and Contents

From the Collection: The Clarence Henderson papers (1921-1924) contain two diaries written by Clarence Henderson (1901-1947) that record his activities as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in Tonga, as well as a 1922 edition of the Tonga Government Gazette and two 1924 petitions to the Tongan Legislative Assembly. A transcript of the diaries prepared by Henderson's daughter, Merle Jones, is also present. The petitions are in reference to the Passport Act of 1922, legislation that hindered LDS missionary work in Tonga due to allegations made against the Church as to its conduct in society. A handwritten statement by Henderson in the Tongan language, as well as correspondence and a certificate concerning his mission release, are also included in the collection.
