Scope and Contents
From the Series:
This series contains information about Stokes' professional activities. The material Stokes used as a professor of geology and geophysics at the University of Utah (such as lecture notes, laboratory manuals, handouts, student papers, exams, theses, dissertations, and homework assignments) is located in boxes 21-31. Box 21 contains teaching items of an unspecified level of study, while the contents of boxes 22-25 are arranged alphabetically by class subject and level. These items are followed by papers written by Stokes' students (boxes 26-29) and theses and dissertations (boxes 30-31). These documents are arranged alphabetically by title. Stokes' files from his tenure as the chairman of the Geology Department are in boxes 32-39. Stokes organized the Earth Science Museum, the forerunner of the Utah Museum of Natural History, and box 40 contains files from his office at the museum. Additional office material is located in boxes 41-52, and includes conference and seminar packets, invoices, receipts, newsletters, order forms, brochures, book reviews, catalogs, and reports. This collection contains over 500 maps, charts, tables, and oversized drawings that are located in boxes 53-64 and the Manuscripts Division's map cases.
