Scope and Contents

The material in boxes 1-14 contain Stokes' personal and professional correspondence and is arranged in chronological order whenever possible. Some folders span several years, as they contain correspondence related to a specific subject or project that Stokes had grouped together. His journals, daily planners, and field notes are located in boxes 15 and 16. Information on Stokes' professional training and the papers from his collegiate studies, such as notes that he took in his college classes, his civil service examination, and a few papers written for a specific class, are in boxes 17-19. Finally, box 20 contains some of his family's personal mementoes as well as some background and biographical information on Stokes.
