File — Reel: 71
Scope and Contents
From the Collection:
The Western States Communication Association records contains correspondence, meeting minutes, convention materials, reports, financial records, annual reports, publications, and oral history tapes and transcripts related to the operations and activities of the organization. W. Arthur Cable served as its first president in 1930, and in 1948 was appointed its first custodian of records by the Executive Council. The title was later changed to archivist. Through his initial efforts and those of his successorts, Earl W. Wells, John W. Wright, Gertrude Baccus, and David Jabusch, the historical records of the association have grown and developed substantially over the years. Originally, the records were housed in the home of the archivist but in 1978, when Gertrude Baccus was appointed, the volume and importance of the archives demanded a more protected and permanent location. After efforts of Archivist David Jausch and other Executive Council members, seventy-nine cartons of historical documents were sent to the University of Utah Marriott Library in 1989.
