Whitney and myself were called into the office of the First Presidency and informed that the publishers of the Encyclopedia Britannica had applied to you for a revised article on the 'Mormon Church' and its 'Doctrine,' to take the place of its then present unsatisfactory article. While the new article would be accredited to you as author, it was their desire that we jointly should prepare the manuscript for it. This, of course, we were both willing to do for the sake of the Church and further its interests."
