Preston Nutter Diaries, Notebooks, Address Books, 1884-1923

 Sub-Series
Identifier: I

Scope and Contents

The entries in the remaining diaries of Preston Nutter are for the most part terse descriptions of business dealings, days spent with his family, or descriptions of travel. Similarly, the notebooks contain addresses, notations of cattle prices, names of businesses and other cattlemen, and little else. One exception is Book 18, labeled "Water Rights." This notebook contains a detailed account in his own hand of the opposition Preston Nutter encountered from other ranchers in the Nine Mile Canyon area while trying to ensure an adequate supply of water from the creek for his own ranch. Folder 3 contains a typed transcription of this notebook by Virginia Price in 1961. Typed excerpts from Preston Nutter's diaries are found in Folders 1-2.
