Scope and Contents

Mettenet (b. 1925) enlisted in the army in June 1943, and was assigned to the 99th Infantry Division, 394th Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion, D Company (1st Army). He shipped for Europe in September 1944 and crossed the channel in October. His unit landed at LeHavre, then moved into Belgium. He describes his unit's actions, including participation in the Battle of the Bulge. In January 1945 he joined the 3rd Army when crossing the Remagen Bridge. He discusses the push through Germany and occupation duty after the war. He returned to the United States in January 1946 and was discharged as a First Sergeant.
