Scope and Contents

Douglass worked at the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh and collected specimens in Montana.
  1. 3 September--"Dewey [Montana] is an old mining camp badly run down. There are a quite a good many log cabins and stores but mostly empty. There is one very neat hotel and one fair store.
  2. Wisdom was a surprise to me. There are two nice general merchandise stores, two or three hotels, meat market, Barber shop, Laundry, Drug store. It is a little place too all in a bunch and things look new and it is one of the nicest little burgs I have seen anywhere."
