State Presidents' Files: Dawn DeWitt, 2004-2006

 File — Box: 98, Folder: 14

Scope and Contents

From the Collection: In the spring of 1976, the papers of the Utah State Division of the American Association of University Women were donated to the Manuscripts Division, Special Collections Department, Marriott Library. Materials in this collection were obtained from the papers of State Presidents and from state and branch files, and cover the time period from 1942, the date of organization, through the early 1980s.

The types of materials in the collection include minutes of state board meetings; reports from branch presidents concerning officers and program implementation; state, regional, national, and international materials concerning workshops, conventions, conferences, and projects; legislative program handbooks and other legislative materials regarding lobbying at the national AAUW level; reports of state and national officers and committees; state division directories; organizational kits and materials; publications-- some emanating from AAUW and others from various sources but used by AAUW in its study programs; Utah State Division files and Salt Lake City branch files arranged alphabetically by topic; and materials and correspondence from the other branches in the Utah State Division.

The papers of the American Association of University Women were originally processed and the register prepared by Maxine Haggerty, an AAUW member, in 1981. Since that time, several other AAUW members have added new material to the collection. Because of the steady flow of new material, the collection has been placed in an updated arrangement which will better allow for the addition of future items and make the papers more accessible to researchers.

The collection is short on personal correspondence and therefore does not reveal the vitality of the organization, nor the personalities of the individuals who have held the presidency over t he years. Because the correspondence retained in the files is sparse for the most part, it has been placed in the folders with other types of papers on the same subject.

Concerning the date range given after each entry (especially regarding directories, newsletters, minutes), searchers should be aware that the contents may be incomplete, so earlier or later entries in the guide listing the same type of document should be searched also.
