Abstract

The Frederick Stewart Buchanan papers (1880-2010) consist of materials relating to his professional research and teaching activities. Included are books, news clippings, articles, notes, oral history transcriptions, personal and professional correspondence, and research documents on Mormon history, Scottish immigrants, and the history of education in Utah. Buchanan is professor emeritus of educational studies at the University of Utah.

Abstract The Frederick Stewart Buchanan photograph collection contains photographs on his personal life, ancestors, family and friends, including photographs of many of the L.D.S.(Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) missionaries with whom Buchanan served in the British Mission during the early 1950s. A strong Scottish component is found in the collection including images from Buchanan's childhood in Ayrshire, Scottish royalty, scenery, and Scottish cultural events and gatherings in Utah....

The Utah Scottish Association audio-visual collection (1971-1981) consists of audiocassette recordings taken from the lectures and interviews of Dr. Frederick S. Buchanan on Scottish culture and the experience of Scottish-American immigrants to the United States. An historian and educator, Buchanan emigrated from Scotland to Utah with his parents in 1949.

Abstract

The Utah Scottish Association photograph collection consists of individual and group portraits, photographs of dancers and bagpipers. The collection also contains portraits of individual members of the Utah Scottish Association as well as images of various dancers in the 1930s and 1980s. The photographs of the Utah Pipe Band also span the 1930s and 1980s.
